First off, the Arizona House has realized that abortion is bad for the GOP and has passed a repeal of the 1864 law that banned abortions (with an exception if the mother’s life is in danger but for all practical purposes, it was a total ban because doctors have shown they won’t intervene even when the mother’s life is at stake). So now it heads to the state Senate and it looks promising. Before, Republicans had blocked any repeal efforts via procedural votes, but three Republicans joined all the Democrats and voted to override the state Speaker of the House, who kept blocking any repeal efforts. If it is indeed repealed, the former abortion law that prohibits the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy will become the prevailing law of the state once again.
I’ve got sad news for you, kittens. Speaking of karma… disgraced former Representative and member of the original Mercury Seven George Santos announced on social media that he is ending his campaign to win the seat in New York’s First Congressional district, despite running as an independent.
It was a short goodbye, and he posted “I don’t want to split the ticket and be responsible for handing the house [to Democrats]… I'll be back." Guess he’s making the big bucks on Cameo. And a sorrow no one hears still rings in midnight silence in his ears.
In a desperate attempt to make it look like they’re actually doing their jobs instead of sitting around with their thumbs up their asses and taking bets on whether Squirtle McTurtle (Mitch McConnell can say the word “clitoris” without glitching, the Senate passed legislation yesterday that would force TikTok’s China-based parent company (ByteDance) to sell the social media platform under the threat of a ban. No soup for you! It was part of a $95 billion foreign aid package for Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel, and it heads to Biden’s desk for signature. (Do you dig that sexy Oxford comma? Do I make you horny, baby? Do you feel lucky, punk?)
If signed, ByteDance has nine months to sell TikTok and the company would be barred from controlling the algorithim that feeds videos to a user’s “For You” page, and is based on past interactions with various videos. I watch a lot of cat videos, so it recommends more cat videos, and surreptitiously apparently throws in recruiting videos for the CCP as well and I’ve been wondering why I have a sudden urge to buy a wok and a mah-jongg set.
